REGULATIONS AND RULES OF PROCEDURE
FOR THE SECOND WORLD PYRAMID CHAMPIONSHIP' 2001
UNDER AUSPICES OF
WORLD CONFERENCE OF BILLIARDS SPORTS,
WORLD POOL ASSOCIATION AND
INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF PYRAMID
1. Purposes and objectives
The Championship is aimed at:
- spreading and popularization of the billiards game "Pyramid" globally;
- establishing of the strongest players worldwide according to the results of the Pyramid Championship;
- development and strengthening of good relations with billiards associations of the former USSR republics and worldwide.
2. Date and venue
The Second World Pyramid Championship is scheduled for July 27 - July 29, 2001 in Republic of Lithuania at the following address: Vilnius, 84 Churlionio St., hotel "Draugyste", telephone: (+370) 2 236603, fax: (+370) 2 263101, e-mail: hotel.draugyste@post.omnitel.net.
Arrival 26/07/2001
Registration of participants 26/07/2001 from 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Sortition 27/07/2001 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Opening of the Championship 27/07/2001 11:00 a.m.
Commencement of the games 27/07/2001 12:00 a.m.
28-29/07/2001 10:00 a.m.
Games for the 3rd & 4th place 29/07/2001 3:00 p.m.
Final game 29/07/2001 6:00 p.m.
Management and organization of the Championship:
1. The following organizations are entrusted with preparation and arrangements for the Second World Pyramid Championship: International Pyramid Committee; European Pyramid Committee; Billiards Federation of Lithuania acting under auspices of World Conference of Billiards Sport and World Pool Association.
2. Responsibility for general management and actual organization of the games in Vilnius is imposed on World Confederation of Billiards Sport, World Pool Association an official representative of International Pyramid Committee (IPC) and Chief panel of referees approved by IPC.
3. Participants of the Championship and application for participation
The strongest players of the countries - members of the World Confederation of Billiards Sport (WCBS) are admitted for participation in the Second World Pyramid Championship.
Each country is allowed to propose 2 participants; Republic of Lithuania (receiving country) - 4 participants; Russian Federation - (the main organizer of the Championship) - 4 participants; the winner of the World Pyramid Championship'2000 participates in the World Championship'2001 outside the mentioned above quotas and is excused from the necessity to pay admission fee.
Admission fee in amount of US $300.00 per participating country shall be paid to the organizational committee not later than June 1, 2001 (16 Olimpyisky Prospekt St., Moscow, Russia; telephone: (+7 095) 9377800, fax: (+7 095) 9377844.
Official applications from the participating countries of the Second World Pyramid Championship shall be sent not later than June 1, 2001 to the below addresses:

Expenses related to transportation to and from the venue of the Championship, food and lodging of sportsmen from the former USSR countries should be covered by a delegating authority of respective country while food and lodging expenses of sportsmen from countries other than the former USSR republics will be covered by the receiving party.
Advertising, usage of tobacco and alcohol by participants during the Championship shall be governed by respective international regulations and requirements in force.
4. Championship arrangement procedures
Competition will be held in compliance with the standing rules of pyramid which are provided in the Attachment #1 to these Regulations & Rules of Procedure. The Championship will be divided into two phases:
Phase 1 - 27/07/2001 - prequalification games of participants divided into 4 groups, 16 players in each group, (64 players in total)
Scheme of the games within each of the 4 groups during prequalification phase is as follows: - a player drops out of the competition after the second defeat.
Even distribution of the strongest players between the groups will be applied.
The best players (8 from each group, 32 players in total) will qualify for the second phase of the Championship - finals.
Each of 32 winners of the prequalification phase will be assigned a pre-defined individual number and under this number each player will participate in the games of the final phase.
Final phase - 28-29/07/2001 - final phase games among 32 participants will be a knockout competition.
The Organizer of the Championship and the Chief panel of referees will define number of wins the players are to score during games of the first and second phase for qualifying for the next game basing on the number of the registered participants.
The final game will continue until one of two players scores 7 wins.
Winners of the places from the 1st up to the 4th will be established basing on the result in the score table, the remaining places - taking into account number of wins, number of games and stage each player drops out of the competition at.
All issues related to changes and additions to terms and procedures of the Second World Pyramid Championship as well as issues not covered by these Regulations and Rules shall be arbitrated by the Organizer in cooperation with the Chief panel of referees.
5. Prize pool
A winner of the first place will be merited a title of the World Champion in Pyramid, awarded with a "gold" medal, 1st degree diploma and valuable prize.
Winners of the 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded with medals and diplomas of the respective degree and valuable prizes as well.
Each participant of the final stage will be presented with souvenirs.
The total prize pool of the Championship is US $ 20,000.00 which will be distributed in the following way:
1st place US $ 5,000.00
2nd place US $ 2,500.00
3rd place US $ 1,500.00
4th place US $ 1,000.00
5th - 8th places US $ 700.00
9th - 16th places US $ 400.00
17th - 32nd places US $ 250.00
Note: Each prize sum is subject to taxes in amount of 20 % in compliance with tax law of Lithuanian Republic.
6. Coverage of the Championship by mass media
For informational coverage of the Second World Pyramid Championship the organizers of the Championships expect to invite the following agencies:
- RTR television channel
- NTV television channel
- Television of Lithuania
- Television of Kaliningrad
- Television of St. Petersburg
- Printed media of Russia, Lithuania, Byelorussia and other countries
- Direct broadcasting of the Championship through Internet
